Toyota Boosts Coaster Safety (470)

Toyota Boosts Coaster Safety (470)

Date Added:

Toyota has focused on expanding safety and driver appeal with a range of improvements to the Coaster bus range.

All three Coaster variants now come standard with a reversing camera and three-point seatbelts for all 21 seats.

The camera image is displayed on a new 6.1-inch touch-screen audio display that also introduces satellite navigation^ across the range.

Drivers can use the voice-recognition function to control key aspects of the audio, navigation system^ and a connected smartphone.

Other system features include audio streaming, FM radio text, iPod®# control, USB## input and a CD player.

Coaster's additional equipment is valued at $2,000* - matching the price increases for the Standard manual and the Deluxe manual and automatic variants.

In addition, an electronic speed limiter - controlled by the engine computer to 100km/h - has been adopted on all variants to meet regulations.

Coaster has a 38-year tradition in Australia, with nearly 20,000 buses sold to charities, community groups, local government, hotels, tour operators and mines.

Toyota Australia executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the latest upgrades to the iconic bus have improved active and passive safety, as well as vehicle usability.

"The reversing camera, satnav, touch-screen audio and voice-control functions will be welcomed by anyone who operates a Coaster, be it a professional tour driver or a volunteer from the local services club," Mr Cramb said.

All three Coaster models are offered with a Euro 5-compliant 4.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, 95-litre fuel tank and factory air-conditioning.

The common-rail turbo-diesel delivers a healthy 397Nm of torque at 1800rpm and maximum power of 110kW at 2700rpm. Towing capacity is two tonnes^^.

Other standard features include anti-skid brakes, power steering, tilt and telescopic adjustment for the steering column, reclining driver's seat, vinyl seat trim and a centre folding door.

Deluxe variants are upgraded with fabric seat trim, a gliding-type centre door, power door locks, an upper window for the driver's door, and two cup holders on the dashboard.

The transmission in Deluxe automatic models is a four-speed unit equipped with a shift-lock system and oil cooler.

Coaster, like all new Toyota vehicles, is covered by Toyota Service Advantage. The first six scheduled services are each capped at $360**.
