Ahead of the Australian launch later this year, Suzuki Motor Corporation has premiered the all-new Suzuki Swift for its European market at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show.
The new evolution of Swift brings with it nimble and agile driving performance, energetic and functional interior styling, and superior safety technologies in addition to uplifting driving performance through the adoption of an extremely light and rigid new generation platform, “HEARTECT”, the cornerstone of the new design.
Whilst created and produced at their Sagara Plant in Japan, Suzuki took it one step further and engaged teams of local evaluation drivers in countries including the UK, Germany, Sweden, and Spain to test and further verify the enhancements of the chassis, suspension, and powertrain, in demanding real-life European driving scenarios.
With already more than 5.4 million sales worldwide, designers set themselves the challenge of stimulating senses with a bold evolution of Swift characteristics whilst still remaining aligned with familiar Swift DNA when embarking upon the journey.
Innovative style was another key command with the exterior displaying sporty blacked-out pillars creating the illusion of a floating roof, bold shoulders, pillar-mounted rear door handles and vertically arranged lamps in the front and rear further complemented with an aggressive front grille, supporting bumper grille and muscular fender.
Inside, four key themes were used as a guide for designers: ‘sporty’, ‘high quality’, ‘advanced’ and, ‘easy to use’. Theming inspiration which subsequently resulted in a sophisticated and spacious interior accompanied with an array of technology features.
With safety an obvious forefront consideration in every vehicle, Suzuki has also included lane departure warning, weaving alert function, high beam assist and adaptive cruise control to complement the crown jewel in its safety crown, Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS).
Swift Chief Engineer Masao Kobori said, “We set out to create a car that makes people go ‘WOW!’ the instant they see it, the instant they get inside and the instant they step on the accelerator.”
Sales of the European model are set to take off from next month with the Australian launch date to be announced in the coming weeks.
