The Suzuki Ignis has been announced as a finalist for the 2017 World Car Awards

Seventy-five automotive journalists make up the panel of jurors, with two from Australia ’World Urban Car’ category introduced for 2017 Awards Winners to be announced at the New York International Auto Show in April, 2017 Suzuki’s Ignis has been confirmed as a finalist in the ‘World Urban Car’ category for the 2017 World Car Awards.

This is the inaugural award for the category with the other five remaining unchanged from last year – ‘World Luxury Car’, ‘World Performance Car’, ‘World Green Car’, ‘World Car Design of the Year’ and the champion ‘World Car of the Year’.

After the first round of voting in January, fellow nominees still competing with the Ignis for the Urban crown are the BMW i3, Citroen C3, Ford Ka+, and Smart Cabriolet, with the top three for each category to be announced at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show in March.

Hailing from Australia to form part of the 75-strong panel of global jurors are News Limited Australia National Motoring Editor, Joshua Dowling, and Carsguide Editor-at-Large, Paul Gover; arguably two of the best, and definite veterans within the motoring industry with more than half a century of combined experience.

Andrew Moore, Suzuki Australia General Manager Automobiles commented, “Both motoring industry experts and everyday consumers alike have been extremely vocal about their love of the all new Ignis and we couldn’t be happier with how the model has been received during its short time in Australia to date.”

Moore continued, “We’ve known for a long time that the Ignis is a game-changer, and the nomination for a global award that forms part of the most esteemed automotive awards program in the world not only supports what we already know but cements its status as an urban icon.”

Those nominated within the Urban category have to meet the criteria of sitting between one and four metres in length, displaying certain levels of safety, affordability, low-noise and flexibility, but additionally servicing the demands and comfort of both pedestrians and cyclists.

If the views of Australian motoring media and consumers is anything to go by, the Ignis is going to charge full steam ahead as a fierce competitor for the title. Stay tuned.
