In a ‘global-first’ automotive initiative, a new venture with a new approach to consumer ‘test drives’, TheCarTest, is now seeking expressions of interest from all automotive manufacturers.

This venture, an initiative of Melbourne-based entrepreneur Christian Schaefer, the recent CEO and originator of the successful P2P car sharing venture, Carhood, has the potential to revolutionise the test drive experience for intending car buyers offering a ‘try before you buy’ exposure to the product.

In particular, it offers brands looking for additional traction in the market an unparalleled opportunity to garner conquest sales, to bring new customers to the brand and to put their products to the top of an in-market car buyer’s shortlist.

“With 56 new model releases recorded in 2015, this year is jam packed with a record 116 new models,” Mr Schaefer said.

TheCarTest puts consumers behind the wheel of a brand new car under a normal rental agreement from one to seven days. Behind it is properly administered and licensed car rental structure and logistical service (including secure garaging and cosmetic maintenance), and with all of the appropriate insurances, indemnities, coverage, experience and care.

“TheCarTest will ensure your brand remains top of mind and in the hands of an ever growing 'candy shop' of automotive choice” Mr Schaefer says.

And, like a traditional rental company, there is a fee associated but with a very important difference! The fee is discounted off the price of the car and returned to the buyer should they choose to purchase the same Make/Model; the discount is then available via a Visa Gift Card valid for up to 6 months and useable Australia-wide! Part of that fee is also rebated to the car manufacturer.

Also shared with the manufacturer, with all of the appropriate legal permissions and safeguards, is the rental and personal data of the intending car buyer collected upon entering into the rental contract.

This provides a direct introduction to the manufacturer for further promotion and possibly exclusive preferential pricing.

“There can be no better, no warmer nor more-qualified lead,” Mr Schaefer said. “This is a unique value-add opportunity in partnership with automotive manufacturers and the dealers who represent them.”

Besides guaranteeing a minimum of 4 leads per vehicle every month, manufacturers will also benefit from a 25% share of rental fees generated, and of registration and ‘demo’ use of cars that might otherwise be sitting idly on grass.

TheCarTest has already signed agency agreements with some of Australia's major auto brands and continues to seek expressions of interest from further OEM program participants before its soon-to-announce grand opening launch out of Tullamarine, Melbourne.

The key partnerships in this program are 112 Pty Ltd, operating Drive.com.au and TheMotorReport.com.au and providing access to the online automotive retail audience of these assets. It also provides exposure on Driven Not Hidden, a Network 10 car show in which 112 Pty Ltd is a major partner.
