Record Subaru sales of 4002 in May has placed the brand 10.3 per cent ahead of its year-to-date (YTD) performance last year, according to official VFACTS figures released today.
Sales of 18,926 Subarus to the end of May have positioned the brand for a record first half, driven by particularly strong demand for Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in the range, Forester, Outback and XV.
Sales of the recently revamped Forester were up 27.7% for the month, totalling 1336, and 32.2% YTD.
Outback sold 1055 in May, up 18.9% for the month and 13.1% YTD.
Also selling well was XV, with 784 in May, up 12.5%.
Subaru’s May market share was 4.1% and 4.0% YTD.
Subaru Australia Managing Director, Nick Senior, said: “The May result is 199 ahead of our previous record for the month, set in 2012.
“Subaru is performing well ahead of the market, which is only up 3.8% for the year and 3.6% for the month.”
The result comes less than a month before the launch of the all-new Subaru Levorg turbocharged wagon.
Mr Senior added: “We’re already getting huge interest in Levorg, so June promises to be strong Subaru sales month too.”
