Subaru has achieved record annual sales for the 15th out of the last 17 years, with a total of 40,502 vehicles sold in 2014, according to official VFACTS sales figures released today.
Subaru was the only mainstream Japanese brand to outperform the automotive market, achieving 0.8 per cent positive growth, compared to the market decline of -2.0 per cent.
Among the star performers for Subaru was new generation All-Wheel Drive WRX and WRX STI, which posted combined total sales of 3554. This represents the best average monthly sales figure for the turbocharged dynamic duo since the late 1990s and a 91.6 per cent increase over 2013.
Impreza sales of 6636 were up 32.3 per cent and XV sales of 11,539 were up 7.2 per cent.
XV commanded a healthy 14.3 per cent of the SUV Small < $40,000 segment.
Subaru Managing Director, Nick Senior, said: “As we’ve introduced each new generation model in recent years, their customer appeal has taken us to a new level.
“We’re feeling inspired for 2015, with the new generation Liberty and Outback just going into showrooms now, to be closely followed in March by our first ever automatic Forester diesel variants with Continuously Variable Transmission.”
Other Subaru stand-outs included Forester sales of 13,670 representing a market share of 12.2 per cent in the SUV Medium < $40,000 segment.
Subaru’s market share for the year was 3.6 per cent.
