Australia makes the Ford Mustang its most popular sports car for the 20th consecutive month, becomes Mustang's number one market for right-hand drive globally.

Australia's love affair with the Ford Mustang has elevated it to the top of the sports car segment for the 20th consecutive month as Australia stakes its claim as the largest right-hand drive market for this iconic model.

A total of 748 Australians rewarded themselves by parking a Mustang in their garage during August 2017, following in the footsteps of a record number of new Mustang owners this year.

Australia is now one of Mustang's prime markets globally, helped by the affection for a vehicle that's starred in popular culture form more than five decades.

�There is certainly an element of desirability for the Mustang here in Australia,� said Graeme Whickman, Ford Australia President and CEO. �Its iconic look turns heads, and with performance to back that up, its broad appeal becomes clear when you go for a drive in one � you don�t even have to be the one behind the wheel to enjoy it.�

Mustang has struck a chord with Aussies, and its August sales figure comes on the back of several months of record results, with May 2017 a standout after 1351 Australians took a Mustang home. Year-to-date, the full year 2016 sales figure of 6208 Mustangs has been eclipsed, with 6715 sold in 2017 at the end of August.

�We�ve worked with the team in Detroit to help reduce the wait for Australian customers,� said Greg Davidson, Ford Australia Sales Director. �We secured additional supply of right-hand drive Mustangs, which has helped those looking to own this icon realise the goal sooner.
