Alto Crowned King Of Running (363)

Australia's leading motoring authorities have confirmed the Suzuki Alto as the king of car ownership and operating costs.

Adding to its string of budget beating accolades, the Suzuki Alto has once again been named Australia’s least expensive car to own and operate by the Royal Auto Clubs of South Australia, Tasmania and Queensland.

The Alto GL dominated the competition and easily outperformed all other comers in annual surveys conducted by the RAA, RACQ and RACT.

Based on average car operating costs over a five year period, the Alto GL manual ranked first among all new vehicles in Australia with a weekly bill ranging from $106 to $113 depending on different regulatory costs in each state.

Taking into account purchase price, depreciation, petrol prices, maintenance and insurance, the Alto’s average cost was calculated at a tiny 41 cents per kilometre.  

With its leading safety of six airbags and ESC plus the economy of just 4.6 litres per 100 kilometres, the Suzuki Alto – now available with automatic transmission from just $12,990 drive away – is clearly one of the best value new cars on the market.

The good news continued for Suzuki owners with the Swift taking out the running cost award for the light car class in the same survey.
