Tarago
Toyota Tarago has felt right at home in Australia for over two decades. After all, the very name ‘Tarago’ is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘my house’. Yet this ‘house’ is now even more inviting than ever.
Across the models, there’s an impressive package of features and power choices. The Toyota Tarago is better equipped, more practical and even more powerful than ever.
Interior

A more accommodating, more flexible and more inviting interior
In this people mover, interior comfort moves into new territory. The second row slides for increased legroom and has a centre retractable armrest complete with cupholders. Step aboard Tarago V6 GLX or Ultima and your passengers are immediately upgraded to business class as they sink into two indulgent new ‘Captains chairs’ in the second row of seats.
For the ultimate in support during long haul travel, these two sumptuous seats are fully adjustable with integrated ottomans which also slide for increased legroom. For those icy days, front seat occupants in Tarago Ultima can immerse themselves in the warmth of heated seats. In V6 models, the third row seats neatly fold into an underfloor recess creating a perfectly flat cargo area for easy loading and added luggage capacity. Tarago Ultima makes things a touch even easier, with one-touch power operation letting you stow the third row seats at the touch of a single button.
Entertainment and convenience at your fingertips
The soothing sounds of the Toyota Tarago's audio system complete with steering wheel controls, will make every trip a pleasure - even with a carload of passengers. GLi models feature an electronic tune AM/FM radio with single disc CD player with MP3 compatability & audio input# (for iPod® or portable MP3 player). GLX models have an electronic tune AM/FM radio with 6 disc^^ in-dash CD player with MP3 compatibility, audio input and Bluetooth™ phone capability*# whilst the Ultima gives you a 4 disc CD player, audio input and Bluetooth™ phone capability*# along with the convenience of an AVN Satellite Navigation system**. Satellite Navigation is also available as part of the optional Premium Pack on V6 GLX models or as an optional accessory on GLX and GLi.
Standard on Ultima and as part of the optional Premium Pack on V6 GLX models^, a fully integrated, ceiling mounted DVD Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system will have your passengers entertained for the entire journey. Boasting a 9” LCD screen that folds up neatly when not in use, the system is cleverly positioned for uninterrupted viewing pleasure for all 2nd and 3rd row passengers. It can be operated via remote control or with the buttons on the unit itself. Audio for the RSE system is heard through the Tarago’s impressive 6-speaker sound system.
Space, versatility, accessibility
Space, versatility, and accessibility equate to comfort, practicality, and ease of use for all important ingredients for any People Mover.
- Space – With its front mounted engine, Tarago gives driver and passengers ample shoulder room and legroom and - with the addition of under-floor storage - more than generous luggage space.
- Versatility – Tarago's seating design is flexible and well-thought-out, providing for seven adults in V6 GLX and Ultima, and eight adults in all other models. On V6 models, the 60:40 split 3rd row seats fold flat to increase cargo capacity. Additionally, all Tarago models include under-floor rear cargo storage, front passenger dash storage, front door pockets, rear side storage pockets, 8 cup and 4 bottle holders.
- Accessibility – Whether you're loading passengers or their luggage, the Tarago makes it easy with dual sliding rear passenger doors (powered on V6 Ultima), rear sidesteps, and second row seatback mounted child seat anchorage points (instead of floor mounted).
*Bluetooth™ will only operate with telephones enabled with compatible Bluetooth™ wireless technology (HFP [Hands Free Profile] v1.0 and OPP [Object Push Profile] v1.1 international standards).

Exterior

Stylish & aerodynamic mono-form design
The Tarago is an undeniably stylish People Mover. Built for the needs of the contemporary family or the progressive corporation, it also reflects their sophistication, offering large, projector style and multi-reflector headlamps, centre-ridged front bonnet, sporty bumpers, dynamic front-to-back lines, rear spoiler, large side and rear windows, and wrap-around multi-reflector rear combination lamps.
Front fog lights standard
Don't risk the safety of your family or clients in foggy conditions. Every Tarago comes standard with front fog lights built within the front bumper, giving you much clearer visibility (unlike conventional headlights which actually reduce visibility). So whether it's early morning commuter driving or a holiday road trip, you can drive safely and confidently.
UV-cut tinted windows
Enjoy increased driver and passenger comfort and decreased glare with UV-cut tinted side and rear windows standard on the Toyota Tarago. Tinted windows help make every journey a pleasure. What's more, they also help extend the life of your upholstery.
Dual Projector and multi-reflector halogen headlights
The Toyota Tarago takes no chances with visibility. Day or night, rain or shine, you'll see clearly and be seen clearly. The GLi & GLX feature dual projector and multi-reflector halogen headlamps, and the Ultima boasts High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps and Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) with washer system. AFS redirects the powerful HID low beams around tight bends based on steering input, allowing you to see what lies around the corner. What's more, with Tarago's headlamp levelling capability (automatic on Ultima, manual on GLi & GLX), the headlights can be focused on the road and directly ahead when the vehicle is fully loaded, delivering optimum visibility and ensuring oncoming drivers experience no unnecessary glare.
Safety

Toyota is committed to vehicle safety. That's why we established the Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) passive safety assessment programme. First we find the toughest safety standards in the world, then we try to exceed them. In the Tarago, you’ll often find yourself carting the most precious cargo in the world - so safety is always a priority.
Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) body
Built around a unique Safe-T-Cell, the Toyota Tarago gives your whole team the protection they deserve. Safe-T-Cell is an energy absorbing structure, designed to help reduce impact upon the cabin, providing occupants with increased protection. Designed, tested, and manufactured to meet Toyota's stringent Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) guidelines, Tarago incorporates Head Impact Protection (HIP), side door anti-intrusion beams, reinforced beams in the floor and roof, front crumple zones and collapsible steering column. It even includes a host of frontal pedestrian protection features for reducing impact in the event of a collision with a pedestrian.
Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i)
Transporting seven to eight passengers is a heavy responsibility… literally. That's why Toyota’s Active Braking with Intelligence (AB-i) is standard on all models. AB-i comes complete with Anti-skid Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). AB-i helps you stop quickly and safely, under any conditions.
- Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) - ABS prevents your wheels from locking up, so you're less likely to skid. Wheel lockup is a major cause of accidents because steering control is lost as soon as the front wheels lose their grip.
- Brake Assist (BA) - BA helps you apply optimum braking force during an emergency.
- Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) - EBD dynamically distributes braking force based on vehicle load.
Vehicle Control Management System (VCMS)
Vehicle Control Management System (VCMS) is the next generation of regular Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and is another testament to the impressive safety standards available on the Tarago.
VCMS is standard on Tarago V6 and GLX 4 cylinder and as an option as part of the Enhanced Safety Pack (ESP) on the GLi 4 cylinder acts like a central nervous system and uses a Control Area Network (CAN) to serve as a link between the various traction enhancing technologies. So it ensures systems work together in emergency situations for enhanced control. The VCMS links the ABS, EPS, VSC and TRC plus a network of sensors. So it controls the throttle and thus the engine output. Brakes are applied to individual wheels and even steering torque is controlled. VSC works dramatically in adverse conditions, while it makes cornering on gravel roads, wet conditions and other slippery bends considerably safer.
The safety and re-assurance of 7 airbags*
Protecting your occupants is a priority at Toyota. Consequently, all Tarago models come standard with a minimum of driver and front passenger SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) airbags. And with the 4cyl GLX and all V6 grades, you also get driver & passenger side airbags, full-length three row side curtain shield airbags and a driver’s knee airbag - all as standard. (Additional airbags are available as part of the optional Enhanced Safety Pack on the 4cyl GLi.)
* Standard on 4 Cyl GLX and all V6 grades

Pre-Crash Seatbelt system (PSB)
With the Toyota Tarago, seatbelt safety gets even better. Tarago V6 and GLX 4cylinder (and the GLi 4 cylinder with the Enhanced Safety Pack option) boast Toyota's Pre-Crash Seatbelt system. Using information from the electronic Brake Assist system and via VSC, electric motors pre-tension the front seats in anticipation of a collision if a sudden quick, hard push on the brake pedal is detected.
Mechanical

3.5-litre V6 or 2.4-litre 4cylinder performance
A true People Mover requires an engine with true power to move. That's why the Tarago gives you the choice between a high performance 3.5L 202kW* V6 and an enhanced 2.4L twin-cam multi-valve 4 cylinder. Both engines feature Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), which allows continual variations of the intake valve timing, creating optimal engine output under all operating conditions. The V6 comes with the benefit of Dual VVT-i and this technology further assists engine performance. As the revs change, so does the timing of both the intake and exhaust valves, ensuring the engine receives the right amount of fuel and air at precisely the right time. It even reburns some of the exhaust gases at moderate engine speeds. So you get power when you need it and economy when you don't.

Smooth ride
The Tarago is now smoother than ever, thanks to completely redesigned suspension. The design increases tension and strength, while decreasing friction and weight, resulting in a much more comfortable, more stable ride, even on rough roads with a full load of passengers. It features MacPherson strut suspension at the front and torsion-beam rear suspension, calibrated and tuned for Australia's local roads and subjected to rigorous all-weather, on-road testing prior to sign-off. What's more, advanced aerodynamics reduce wind turbulence and noise, for a quieter, smoother ride.
Toyota and the environment
Toyota believes in a future for our children. In fact, we became the first car manufacturer ever to receive the United Nations Global 500 Award for outstanding contributions to the environment. The Toyota Tarago boasts VVT-i engine technology and Electronic Controlled Transmission (ECT) with high efficiency lock-up torque converter. It incorporates recyclable materials wherever possible, with a wide range of its parts made from reusable sources. And it contains minimal quantities of lead and PVC, as Toyota's highly recyclable Super Olefin Polymer has been used in place of plastic wherever possible.
Electric Power Steering (EPS)
Electric Power Steering is another first for Tarago. EPS offers maximum assistance at low speeds, which is perfect for tight parking situations. At higher speeds, assistance is reduced for optimum road feel. And to tailor your steering position for comfort and control, a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering column is standard. On the Toyota Tarago, even the power steering is environmentally conscious! Because it's electric, Tarago's advanced power steering minimises fuel consumption and eliminates the need for hydraulic oil in the steering system, simultaneously saving you money and reducing emissions.
