New Toyota Aurion - The Game has Changed

Introducing Aurion V6, the first Australian built, naturally aspirated big 6 to achieve 200kW of power, while returning fuel economy of just 9.9 l/100km¹. That makes Aurion V6 the most powerful, fuel efficient and advanced naturally aspirated big Aussie 6 to date, thanks in part to technology inspired by F1 racing. Aurion also comes standard with features like a 6-speed sequential shift automatic and 6 airbags putting it ahead of others in the big 6 game. So now that big power is achievable without a big fuel penalty, Aurion V6 is changing the rules of the Big 6 game for good.

More Australian design input is rewriting the rules

An Australian design team headed by Nick Hogios, a former Wheels Magazine 'Young Designer of the Year', worked closely with international Toyota designers and engineers. So the body design reflects the strong, athletic look of the big Aussie 6. The suspension system and ride quality has been optimised, suitable for our unique road conditions. Increased soundproofing help minimise irritating road noise. Aurion V6 is quickly changing the rules, so the driver of the Big Aussie 6 is the winner of this game.

Interior

Luxury comes as standard

Aurion rewrites the rules about space and smarter design. Soothing colour tones give a feeling of spaciousness in the clean interior, while generous dimensions add to the roomy feeling with ample legroom front and rear. Seating provides optimal support for reduced fatigue, while in Sportivo models, sports seating offers greater lateral support. All models come standard with Air Conditioning including a pollen filter. For personalised comfort, dual zone climate control in Prodigy, Presara and Sportivo ZR6 models allows the driver and front passenger to independently select their preferred temperature settings.

Ergonomic designs

The flowing integrated dash wraps around driver and front passenger, a reflection of the race cars that have inspired its design and technology. Ergonomic thinking has ensured controls have been placed within easy reach of the driver, while switches are confident and precise. Audio controls on the steering wheel come on all models, as do power windows, door locks and mirrors.

Optitron instrument clarity

An Optitron meter increases visual contrast between the meter and the meter readings, ensuring greater instrument clarity. In Prodigy, Presara and Sportivo models, the instrument panel offers you the addition of a multi information display, providing data including outside temperature, fuel range and consumption, driving time and average speed.

Premium audio acoustics

The MP3/WMA CD compatible audio system with 6-speakers incorporating psychoacoustic technology is standard across the range. This gives you the sensation of a subwoofer, by boosting bass response. The sound also appears to be coming from the windscreen area, adding dimension to the sound. An Automatic Sound Leveliser (ASL) tailors the volume and equalisation mix to compensate for vehicle speed, while a Digital Signal Processor enhances sound clarity. Sportivo and Prodigy models come with a 6 disc in-dash CD changer, while Presara has a 4 disc in-dash CD changer with the DVD Satelite Navigation package.

Exterior

Muscular body design

Aurion V6 has balanced proportions on the outside, while ensuring plenty of cabin room inside. The long wheelbase and wide track ensure excellent handling, while giving Aurion V6 a bold, confident stance.

Powerful lighting technology

Either side of the distinctive front grille, headlamp technologies include projector type halogen low beams in AT-X and Prodigy. Sports headlamps with projector type halogen low beams light the way for Sportivo SX6 and ZR6. Presara is equipped with High Intensity Discharge low beams that incorporate an adaptive front-lighting system which aims the beams around corners, syncronised to the steering wheel at speeds above 10km/h. Then in the rear, LED tail and brake lamps light up faster, above a strong rear bumper design, with twin chrome exhaust pipes extending out from underneath.

The performance look of Sportivo

With their performance-inspired full body kit including low body skirts and rear spoiler, plus unique grille design, Sportivo ZR6 and SX6 models look the part. Wide 17" alloy wheels with Michelin tyres add grip. And underneath, F1 inspired underfloor aerodynamic enhancements add downforce to help suck the car onto the road at higher speeds.

Safety

6 SRS airbag package as standard

The rules of the safety game are changing as well. Standard in every Aurion is a package of 6 SRS airbags that includes 2-stage front occupant airbags which deploy in accordance with crash severity in the event of frontal impact. Front seat mounted side airbags help reduce the likelihood of injury to front seat occupants' torsos during side collisions. Side curtain shield airbags help protect the chance of injury to the heads of the front and rear seat outer occupants in the event of a side impact.

Intelligent AB-i braking system

By integrating braking technologies, Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i) helps optimise braking performance, particularly in emergencies. In an emergency situation Brake Assist (BA) senses a quick, hard push on the brake pedal and automatically responds. It then applies extra hydraulic pressure and, if necessary, Anti-skid Braking (ABS) to minimise the vehicle's stopping distance. Meanwhile, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) instinctively adjusts for tyre load conditions and any extra weight carried and directs brake-force to the wheels that need it most.

Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) front seat design

To alleviate the impact to the neck area in the event of a rear end collision, the new front seat is designed to suppress the relative movement between the head and body.

Structural passive safety features

A collapsible steering column reduces the likelihood of injury to the driver in a frontal collision.

Front Emergency Locking Retractor seatbelts have pre-tensioners and force limiters for advanced collision restraint characteristics

Greater use of high strength steel offers greater structural rigidity.

Cross section roof reinforcements help resist side impact loads.

For pedestrian safety, the underbonnet supporting structure and impact absorbing fender brackets help minimize collision impact.

Mechanical

3.5L all-alloy quad-cam V6 with dual VVT-i

In this game, big power comes without big fuel consumption. The engine's 200kW output is made possible by technologies like dual VVT-i and friction-reducing roller rockers. It is also the most powerful engine ever in an Australian built Toyota. Aurion V6 is rewriting the rules about power and economy, with emissions that meet tough Euro IV standards.

6-speed sequential shift automatic

An all new transmission is shifting the game. Aurion is the first Australian big 6 with a 6-speed auto standard across the range. With low speed lock-up and semi-lock-up, it offers improved economy. Artificial Intelligence (AI) shift control determines the optimum shift pattern based on the driver's needs and road conditions. It also selects the right gear when climbing hills to prevent unnecessary up-shifting, while on descents it shifts down to optimise engine braking. Or you have the option of sequential shifting, giving you a more direct driving involvement.

Driver Assist Technology

A package of Driver Assist Technologies uses computer intelligence to aid handling in challenging conditions. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) employs the sensors, actuators and computer electronics of the braking and traction control systems to help anticipate and control skidding when cornering. By controlling engine output as well as brakes on the front and rear wheels, VSC allows you to drive confidently, in particular when you encounter a greasy or uneven surface.

When accelerating on marginal traction surfaces such as wet or gravel roads, traction control (TRC) minimises drive wheel slippage, helping a driver maintain steering precision and acceleration control. TRC ensures that a vehicle accelerates in the intended direction at the optimal rate.

Suspension tuned for Australia

Up front, McPherson struts mellow out the ride on our often unrefined roads, while the rear suspension layout is an independent chapman strut with 3 links. Multi-leaf linear control valves improve damping performance, for improved comfort. Greater use of high strength steel in the body structure gives the suspension a rigid structure to aid the car's stability and handling.

Sportivo handling package

The Sportivo ZR6 and SX6 models benefit from the more responsive handling of a firmer sports suspension system. A V-shaped brace keeps the rear suspension towers aligned and provides greater body rigidity for enhanced cornering. Firmer spring and stabiliser bar settings optimise cornering control even further, by reducing body roll and sharpening steering response even further. So you can play this game with nimble handling and greater control.
