As a total performance package, the new Impreza WRX STI sets a new benchmark.
With its stunning, yet practical all-new hatch design modelled directly from the WRC car, powerful turbo performance and legendary constant symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, this performance icon is as breathtaking as it is groundbreaking.
Sophisticated, sharper, sportier and much more refined than previous models, the new Impreza WRX STI shares the same rally design DNA as the new Subaru World Rally Car. Shorter overhangs, a longer wheelbase, wider track, excellent vision, superior weight distribution, a lower centre of gravity, aerodynamic efficiency and incredible safety credentials have all been accommodated in a taut, all new hatch configuration to guarantee impeccable handling with enhanced interior space. Reductions in noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) have also resulted in a quieter, more refined ride that belies this super car’s performance.

Where ergonomics and electronics are synergised to focus all attention on an exhilarating and safe driving experience. The distinctive electroluminescent instrumentation provides easy and instant communication of the car’s key parameters. The wide track, new hatch design enables the added bonus of enhanced interior space that is both more functional and more comfortable.
There is no denying the comprehensive array of standard equipment. Steering wheel control for audio and cruise control, a six-stack CD player** with iPod™* compatibility, dual trip meters and outside temperature display are all standard. Climate control air-conditioning; power steering, windows and mirrors, central locking, leather and Alcantara body hugging sports bucket seats and front, front side and curtain airbags enabling the Impreza WRX STI to achieve a 5-star ANCAP rating for occupant safety. Satellite Navigation with Bluetooth compatibility, incorporating a DVD entertainment system and single CD player, is also available as an option.

It’s a product of award-winning engineering developed over 35 years, including extensive Australian testing - so the new Impreza WRX STI you drive is engineered to suit our unique Australian conditions.
Pioneering All-Wheel Drive since 1972
Having pioneered AWD technology since 1972, we’ve combined our track proven, constant AWD system with our new Subaru Intelligent Chassis (SI-Chassis) technology. Combined with our famous symmetrical drive train the system facilitates excellent balance delivering driver control.
Subaru Boxer Engine
The Subaru Boxer Engine was first utilised in the Subaru 1000 back in 1965. Since these humble beginnings, this engine has become the foundation of our automotive technology, The ‘flat’ design 2.5 litre turbocharged Boxer Engine provides a lower centre of gravity and superior balance, when delivering an awesome 221 kW of power and 407 Nm of torque.

The new-generation Boxer Engine delivers thrilling driving performance throughout the rev range. Highway cruising, weekends away or simply driving to work all become a fun experience behind the wheel of a new Impreza WRX STI, rewarding the driver at every turn.
At the Heart of it All
In a word, awesome. How else could we describe 22 1kW of power and 407Nm of torque? Our ingenious engineers have added a dual active valve control system, turbocharger improvements, increased intercooler efficiency and positioned the new 2.5 litre Boxer ‘flat’ design engine lower in the engine bay than the previous model, for added balance and thanks to a lower centre of gravity. The new engine also meets stringent Step 4 emission regulations.
Advanced Performance
The engine features an advanced dual Active Valve Control System (AVCS). This offers increased torque and easy drivability in the medium and low speed ranges, greater power at higher speeds and greater levels of fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. This is coupled with an advanced turbo charger, which has enhanced airflow.
Cool Running
To improve overall performance and control the engine temperature, the intercooler has been enlarged. Additionally, the clever placement of air vents in front and behind the front wheel, contribute positively to the cooling abilities of both the radiator and the intercooler. These air vents also disperse air from the engine bay along side the car optimising down force, thereby increasing traction and driver enjoyment.

SI-DRIVE (Subaru Intelligent Drive)
The Subaru Intelligent Drive system incorporated in the new Impreza WRX STI
lets you choose the driving mode (Intelligent, Sports or Sports Sharp) to suit
your mood. Smoother, more economical vehicle control is delivered in intelligent
mode; for general driving in mixed traffic conditions sports mode provides linear
acceleration and flexibility; sports sharp mode maximises engine potential and
enables the driver to experience the thrill that is STI.
New Multi-mode DCCD (Driver’s Control Centre Differential).
Our World Rally Drivers are confronted with a large variety of driving surfaces,
from slip to grip, and now you have similar technology at your fingertips. Multimode
DCCD adds three new AUTO modes to the normal centre MANUAL mode
to give you additional traction, handling response and all round performance.
This technology is only available in the new Impreza WRX STI and lets you
control the limited slip differential (LSD) to match the driving conditions or your
driving style in an instant. Auto (-) mode provides sharp handling performance
suited to dry conditions. Auto (+) mode optimises overall traction suited to wet,
slippery conditions.
Unique Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control System
Unique to the new Impreza WRX STI, our new, advanced multi-mode stability control system provides greater driver control and flexibility. There are 3 modes – OFF, TRACTION and NORMAL. Normal mode utilises the full system, controlling power, braking and torque delivery in emergency situations; Traction mode controls only braking and torque delivery whilst OFF mode enables the driver to operate the car without VDC. So, whether you want total driver control (OFF mode), assistance with traction control (traction mode) or full assistance with traction, power and braking control (Normal mode) the choice is yours.
Subaru Intelligent Chassis
This all-new chassis points the way into the future for Subaru. Fine-tuning of the overall balance further improves driving performance and is complemented by a highly rigid body and pliable suspension that expertly absorbs bumps in the road. Add the new, rear double wishbone suspension and front inverted struts to the wider tread and numerous geometry changes, and your driving enjoyment is assured.Improved Front Suspension
Newly developed for this peak performing Subaru, the highly rigid inverted strut suspension includes technology developed through years of punishing testing in many climates and conditions on the FIA World Rally Championship. The wide cast aluminium front arms improve stability whilst comfort is enhanced and vibrations are reduced when driving over imperfections in the road. Further, road holding has been enhanced by optimising the suspension geometry including toe and camber angles and increasing the suspension stroke.
Improved Rear Suspension
The newly designed sub-frame is complemented perfectly by the specially designed double wishbone suspension at the rear. The key benefits are the superior grip of the tyres to the road, a quiet, smooth and comfortable driving experience and increased cargo space due to the lack of protrusions in the luggage area.
Rally Developed Aerodynamics
The aerodynamcis of the Impreza WRX STI has been designed to create downforce and enhance traction, fuel efficiency and driving enjoyment. Air vents located on either side of the front wheels ensures air entering the engine bay is dispersed along the side of the car as well as underneath. Combine this with a large rear spoiler, a rear diffuser and lessons learnt from aircraft manufacture and the new Impreza WRX STI is as sleek as it is powerful.
Seriously Safe
At Subaru, we realise that if you are to experience the exhilarating thrill of driving the ultimate Impreza WRX STI, then that must be underwritten with a comprehensive safety package. The key to avoiding dangerous situations is a balanced combination of high levels of grip, the active safety of symmetrical AWD and the new, powerful braking system. However, if an accident is unavoidable you can feel reassured with Impreza WRX STI achieving the maximum 5-Star ANCAP occupant rating offering the protection of safety features such as the highly rigid body, rigid passenger safety cell and six airbags.
ABS Brakes with EBD and Brake Assist
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is a fundamental part of our safety philosophy, offering shorter stopping distances in emergencies. That is why we have 4 channel, 4 sensor ABS braking with Electronic brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake assist (BA) standard. ABS uses independent sensors to detect and control braking on each wheel, providing the control required to allow the driver to brake and steer away from danger. EBD works with the ABS system to provide greater reassurance by automatically distributing braking force to maximise stopping power. The braking system uses Brembo brakes with 4-pot front and 2-pot rear calipers combined with 4-wheel ventilated discs.
The Ring of Reassurance
As with all Subaru models, the Impreza WRX STI is surrounded by ring shaped reinforcements, a network of frames that provide optimum strength in the event of an accident. They are a significant contributor to our excellent safety record. Think of it as a cleverly engineered shield that Subaru engineers have built especially to protect you.
Maximum 5-Star ANCAP Occupant Safety Rating
There is only one way to pass the stringent independent crash testing conducted by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). Be more stringent. The new Impreza WRX STI, as with other Subaru models, has achieved the maximum 5-Star ANCAP Occupant Safety result and is equipped with front, front side and curtain airbags. The new more rigid passenger safety cell has been especially strengthened and is designed to absorb energy in the event of a collision, protecting the occupants.
