It’s true to say that when it comes to trucks, a proud history counts for plenty. The Ford Ranger is the perfect example.

The latest in a long line of tough Ford trucks, the Ranger is a legend in the making. The instant you cast your eyes over the muscular body and rugged styling you’ll instinctively know that whatever you dish up to the Ranger it’ll just keep on coming back for more. Whether it’s work or play, the Ford Ranger won’t let you down no matter how tough the terrain gets.

Play as hard as you work

Loading up the dirt bikes? Hitching up the boat for a weekend fishing trip? Rest assured, when it comes to getting away from it all, the Ford Ranger lets you play just as hard as you work.

The muscular bold lines and surefooted, aggressive stance tell you that once you’re behind the wheel there’s no holding back. The strong and powerful design is emphasised by the big, wide grille opening, and further enhanced by the eye-catching power dome in the hood. And with side steps, sports bar, 16” alloy wheels and a hard plastic bedliner with a 12-volt power socket, all standard on XLT, loading up the gear for a bit of rest and relaxation couldn’t be easier. All in all, the Ford Ranger has what it takes to tackle the big weekend with as much gusto as a hard day’s work.

Power and torque that’s legendary

You want power and torque? You got it. And then some.

While boasting an abundance of pulling power, the Ranger’s turbo diesel engines are also smart. The common rail platform allows precise control over fuel injection timing and pressure, giving you better fuel economy. The high pressure fuel injection also means that in addition to having plenty of high-tech power on tap, you have loads of torque throughout the rev range along with great acceleration, under all manner of load and towing conditions. Leading the way is the 3.0L high pressure Direct Injection Turbo diesel. It delivers 115kW of power at 3200rpm and a whopping 380Nm of torque at only 1800rpm, while fuel economy comes in at 9.2L/100km*. The 2.5L diesel gives even better fuel economy at just 8.3L/100km*, yet you’ll still have 330Nm of torque at 1800rpm.

Legendary levels of comfort

On the outside, they simply don’t come any tougher than the Ranger, but inside is another story altogether.

Open the door, climb inside the spacious cabin and Ranger’s interior will take you by surprise. The look, feel and craftsmanship that has gone into all the interior finishes sets new standards in comfort and convenience. In fact, when you settle into the sculptured seats the interior feels more like a family sedan than a truck, even more so when you consider that power windows, power side mirrors, central locking, engine immobiliser and remote keyless entry with 2 key fobs are all standard features. A stylish instrument panel design, short throw gearshift and a host of convenient and clever storage solutions, such as the slide-out tray above the glove compartment, raise the bar even further. Then there’s the stereo 6-disc CD player with MP3 compatibility, standard on XLT, and two 12-volt DC accessory sockets that enable you to charge your mobile phone and run your lap top computer. Add it all up and it’s not hard work to see why Ranger is in a class of it’s own.

Amongst the safest in its class

Ranger boasts levels of safety that are truly legendary.

It comes with a superior body construction that is as strong as it is striking, and is designed to disperse crash forces away from the vehicle’s occupants. And on the Super Cab model, the front door and rear access panel close to form a virtual B-Pillar, which is far stronger than the conventional B-Pillar. Inside you’ll find standard safety features like driver and front passenger airbags and load-sensing seatbelt pretensioners,# as well as optional front side airbags* to protect the driver and front passenger from side impacts. Add to that, four wheel ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution(EBD) for greater stopping performance^. Plus there’s an optional bull bar that is fully airbag compatible. So rest assured, regardless of whether you’re loaded up with work gear or camping gear, Ranger is looking after you and your passengers.

Legendary versatility

The versatility of the Ford Ranger is tough to beat.

There’s a choice of Single, Super or Crew Cab, available as either 4x2 or 4x4 and all with the flexibility of both Cab Chassis or Pick-up models. Add to that the practicality of a 4x2 3.0L Hi-Rider with its added ground clearance and you’ll find there’s a Ranger that’s up for whatever job you have in mind. Of course, being able to handle work and play with such versatility requires more than just a rugged exterior. Beneath its tough profile, Ranger boasts a unique overlapped,cross-braced ladder frame. It provides improved ride and handling, plus greater durability and load-carrying capability compared to the usual H-beam or open-beam configurations. It also delivers towing capacity up to a whopping 3,000kg*. Add to all this the superior functionality of the Super Cab Rear Access System which features 2 rear hinged doors to provide easy access to the rear compartment for passengers and a safe storage area for items such as valuable tool boxes.

Makes light work of the toughest jobs

Ford has been building hard working trucks longer than anyone else so it comes as no surprise that Ford Ranger loves nothing more than a hard day’s work.

With a payload that exceeds one tonne right across the range, massive loads are no problem. Then there’s the towing capacity. Working in tandem with the turbo diesel engine, the 2.5 litre models are capable of towing up to 2,250kg.* Step up to a 3.0 litre model and you can easily tow up to an equal class leading 3,000kg,* enabling you to get more work done in less time. So hooking up a trailer full of tools isn’t going to slow you down. And when you are piled up with supplies and equipment, a load sensing proportioning brake valve is used to control rear braking pressure to improve braking effectiveness under various load conditions.

The suspension system, specifically tuned for Australian conditions, uses long leaf springs and oversized shock absorbers. Not only are bigger loads easier to handle, but the ride is smoother, too. So regardless of whether you’re working hard or playing hard, in a Ranger you’ll handle it comfortably.
