Jarvis Ford
Available on Falcon Ute, Falcon R6 Ute and Falcon XR6 Ute.
Developed by Ford Australia, EcoLPi will be the most advanced LPG technology available, delivering substantial fuel savings compared with both traditional petrol and LPG engines. Best of all, there is no compromise on engine performance. The EcoLPi engine delivers an astounding 198kW of power at 5000rpm and 409Nm of torque at 3250rpm.
EcoLPi available on non 1-tonne variants from August 2011 and 1-tonne variants from December 2011. EcoLPi not available on XR6 Turbo.
Why is liquid phase injection better?
As opposed to traditional systems, the liquid injection system takes the gas in liquid state all the way to the injectors. The injectors deliver LPG liquid into the intake port as the engine sucks in the air/fuel mix.
As the LPG liquid is released from the injector, because it is no longer under pressure, it expands approximately 250 times into gas and almost freezes the incoming air. This creates the ideal condition for maximum fuel burning efficiency, hence producing more power and torque economically and with fewer CO2 emissions.
How it Works
EcoLPi (Liquid Phase Injection) uses new LPG injectors to deliver fuel directly into the intake port, in liquid form. This system has substantial advantages over traditional LPG systems, which turn liquefied gas to vapour form before feeding it into the intake manifold of the engine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is safety compromised with an LPG system?
A: Through thousands of computer simulations and real-world tests, Ford has clearly demonstrated that a Falcon running on LPG passes the same stringent safety tests as its petrol equivalent.
Q: Is there a compromise on boot space?
A: The Falcon sedan has a Temporary Mobility Kit (TMK) in lieu of a spare wheel. This increases usable boot space to a huge 464L.
Q: Is refuelling with LPG more difficult?
A: Refuelling with LPG is no more difficult than with a petrol vehicle. The only difference is the nozzle must be screwed on as opposed to simply placed in the fuel filler.
Q: Is LPG as readily available as petrol?
A: LPG is available at over 4000 outlets Australia wide. Given how far you can go on one tank, you’re sure to be able to find several near you. To view LPG locations click here.
Q: Will a car with LPG cost more to service? Does it have lower resale value?
A: Historically, an LPG fitted Falcon will actually command a premium over its petrol equivalent.^ Servicing intervals and warranty are identical.
Q: Does the car take longer to start?
A: Due to our new pre-priming system, fuel pressure will begin building as soon as the driver opens the car door – leading to minimal delays between getting in the car and being on your way.
