Toyota Dominates On-line People's Choice Award
Toyota has dominated the 2007 Carsales Network People's Choice Awards, winning five of the 13 categories.
Toyota Yaris won the light car category, while Toyota LandCruiser picked up the large SUV award.
Toyota Prado was the most popular Medium SUV.
Toyota had a clean-sweep in the commercial categories, with the Toyota HiLux claiming the light-commercial car award and Toyota HiAce topping the light-commercial van category.
The awards are based on the number of new vehicle enquiries to its network of websites.
"Toyota has been gaining increasing acclaim from the motoring media and the results of the 2007 Carsales Network People's Choice Awards indicate that the buying public is equally positive about the Toyota brand," said David Buttner, Toyota Australia senior executive director, sales and marketing.
"Winning industry awards is always a good indication that a brand is hitting the sweet spot, and to have won across five categories says that Toyota's connection with the Australian market is getting stronger."
The awards are Australia's only popular poll of car buyers' favourite vehicles.
"During 2007, hundreds of thousands of new car enquiries were placed across Carsales Network websites," said Greg Roebuck, managing director of Carsales.com Ltd.
"That means we can determine exactly which new car models Australian buyers are looking at purchasing, and in that way, the People's Choice Awards are truly a vote by Australian car shoppers on their favourite new vehicles."
Toyota has been the number one selling brand in Australia for five years, and in 2006 became the first company in almost 30 years to achieve the automotive sales 'triple crown': number one in overall sales, number one in passenger cars and number one in commercial vehicles.
"The popularity with private and fleet buyers alike is obvious, but it's reinforced by the brand's dominant performance in our People's Choice Awards," Mr Roebuck said.
