Subaru wins second International Engine of the Year Award

Subaru 2.5L Turbocharged Engine

Subaru’s 2.5 litre turbocharged engine has won an International Engine of the Year Award for the second time in three years.

The four-cylinder boxer turbo that powers the new generation Impreza WRX and Forester XT, won the 2.0 to 2.5 litre class in the awards, announced this week at the Engine Expo in Stuttgart, Germany.

Subaru won the same award in 2006.

A panel of 65 renowned journalists from 32 countries served as judges in the competition organized by UKIP Media & Events - Automotive Magazines’ Division, Britain’s largest group of auto-technology magazines, which includes “Engine Technology International” and “Automotive Testing Technology International.”

The judges applied their technical knowledge and impressions, scoring for the vehicle’s performance, drivability, ease of handling, fuel economy, and refinement.

Subaru’s winning engine delivers higher low and mid-range torque, offering better overall performance and practical use. Design changes, including to the engine’s turbocharger, improve vehicle response, as well as environmental performance.
