Jarvis Ford
The Australian Automobile Association, on behalf of Australia’s top motoring clubs, including the RAA, NRMA and RACV, has presented the Ford Falcon XT with the 2008 ‘Best Large Car’ award.
In what is considered one of the most comprehensive and exhaustive independent testing and award programs, the FG Falcon has emerged as the clear cut winner.
Indeed, every aspect of the stunning new Ford’s performance and presentation was scrutinised, resulting in an overall rating of 729, compared to its closest competitor in the Toyota Aurion AT-X with a rating of 708.
Refinements to the Falcon’s already renowned driving dynamics, including redesigned front suspension, improved control blade rear suspension and, of course, Ford’s well respected in-line six cylinders seemingly effortless ability were all by praised by the judging panel.
Cabin functionality and comfort also received it’s share of acclaim with the dash layout and presentation described as being ‘among the best anywhere.’
Likewise, Falcon’s 5 star ANCAP safety rating, the first ever for an Australian designed and built vehicle, could not be understated. The ‘first class safety package’ includes dual-stage drivers airbag, front passenger airbag and head protecting side airbags, in addition to electronic stability control, ABS brakes and electronic brake force distribution.
Servicing and maintenance costs also aided Falcon’s rating as did the option of a dedicated LPG engine.
