Australia’s only national newspaper best car award, the ‘Carsguide Car of the Year’ has been awarded to the Ford Falcon G6E Turbo for 2008.
Carsguide judges have heaped praise on the Australian designed and built Falcon, calling it “The best Falcon to roll out of Broadmeadows, perhaps even the best ever Australian made car.”
While the upmarket G6E Turbo was officially rewarded, the entire Falcon range was also recognised, particularly for its ‘dedication to detail’.
"Sure it's the top-end model but even the entry FG Falcon XT is a superb driver's car," said Neil McDonald of the Melbourne Herald Sun.
It should be no surprise that safety also plays a big part in an award like this and the Falcon range is a standout in this department. The FG Falcon was given a 5 Star ANCAP Safety Rating earlier this year – a first for an Australian built car.
Just how impressed judges were with the G6E is reflected in its score of 77 out of a maximum possible 80 points and they were not alone – the Falcon also took out the Carsguide People’s Choice Award. With an impressive 25.7 percent of the votes (the next best being 15.6) and plenty of glowing reviews, the G6E Turbo has certainly proven popular with the public.
While the panel where clearly pleased with the G6E’s chassis and ride quality Carsguide also made specific mention of Ford’s new turbocharged 4.0 litre straight six engine – describing it as an ‘absolute gem’.
The results are seen as just reward for Ford’s patience, engineering excellence and dedication to creating a world class motor vehicle.
